Exemplary breads, pastries and cakes

One of the city's most vital outlets for bread, patisserie and viennoiserie is, unsurprisingly, attached to one of the city's most treasured restaurants, Dôme [see entry], originally co-created by Paris-trained chef Julien Burlat. Paris-trained Lionel Bethaz knows what he's doing here, and the slight trek out of the way is well worth it, particularly if you're in the neigbhourhood (Zurenborg) looking at its treasure trove of art nouveau houses or having a drink at Café Den Draak [see entry]. Opened 2007. Closed Monday. Website contradicts itself regarding Sunday closing: 2pm vs. 4pm. A second outlet, opened June 2016, can be found at Lange Gasthuisstraat 5 (Tue to Sat 8.30am–6pm).
