Opened in 1993, Hessenhuis remains one of Antwerp's hot spots, known for its sprawling available drinks menu and its continued commitment to spirit and liveliness. Set in a reinvented 16th-century warehouse, the two-floor space has a capacity of about 300. The daytime clientele are mostly straight local workers looking for a drink, a soup or a croque monsieur, while the gay men arrive early evening to transform the atmosphere from quietish café to frisky bar, with DJs upping the club quotient from Thu to Sun.
